During his short career into the world of film making, Mike, because of his love for movies, has traveled leaps and bounds over those who’ve been in the business for three times as long and longer. With a thirst for understanding the process, not only the “how it works,” but in selecting material and talent that ensures success, he ventured forth asking questions and questioning practices that had been around for years. With this knowledge he began producing his own films and has left a signature mark on each of them; a spirit of independence that gave opportunities to new talent while at the same time, guaranteeing his “bet” by making sure marketable names were in key positions both in front of and behind the camera. While the entertainment business is filled with producers and “creatives,” that work the system status quo, Mike harks back to days of yesteryear where film makers – the producers in particular – were not only an integral part of the process, but also set forth with a very basic “love of film.”
I’ve been proud to be a part of Mike’s journey, introducing him to the business itself, and now seeking his advice where his knowledge has surpassed mine. He has an instinct for basic principles that not only make the movie making process a more enjoyable experience, but also aid in the ultimate production and distribution of a film. Even more remarkable perhaps, is that his “rolodex” is now filled with more important numbers than most as he understands the value of relationships and has made great efforts to extend his reach and create a network of contacts.
It’s rare that somebody like Mike comes along with such a great joy for what we do and a desire to understand it’s history and potential. A great collaborator, he is already a force to be reckoned with, and I suspect in the future, may very well be ‘the” force that guides many of us.
